Oh, my back tire! I never stopped yesterday to fill it up and now it’s extremely low. My small air pump causes more air to leak out since it doesn’t fit the valve right. One of the groundskeepers at Wilmington KOA offers to air it up for me and asks me to follow him to the barn. I know, it sounds like the beginning of a horror story. But the large air compressor does the trick. I’m on my way.

I ride out of Wilmington into Carolina Beach and closer to the ocean. This Carolina Beach sign has a lot to say. This is one of the beaches my wife and I day-trip to often. It’s the closest and easiest for us to get to. It never disappoints.

Crossing over to Carolina Beach

While crossing the bridge into Carolina Beach I look to my right to watch two small airplanes doing tricks in the air. But only for a second, traffic is buzzing by, and there’s zero room for error on this bridge.

Passing the Marinas on the way to the beach.

Once back on the Island chain it’s a casual and fun day. I’m not yet sure how far today’s ride is or where it will end, but I’ve been anxious all week to ride through Carolina beach, Kure Beach, Fort Fisher, then ferry across The Cape Fear River, where it becomes marshy just before it flowing into the Atlantic Ocean.

Since this is Thanksgiving weekend and we’re all still coming out of our food-comas, I won’t go into the details of my ride through beach towns. Instead, I’m going to flood you with photos and short descriptions, as if we’re trapped with our families forty years ago in a dark living room with no light other than a projector and square screen provides.

Let’s begin.
