Holden Family Campground

It’s as though I were destined to come to this campground.

Last week I had called around the area to find out which campgrounds allowed tent camping. One lady recommended campsite F4, the site beneath the tree. As she described the scene I could almost visualize it; it sounded perfect. She asked if I wanted to make a reservation. Since it was still a week away it was impossible for me to commit. I was unsure of how far I’d ride each day, plus I didn’t want to be tied to timelines or destinations. I made no reservations.

Earlier today, from a beach fifty road miles away, I called a few campgrounds.

One phone call was with the lady I spoke with last week, though I didn’t remember it today. My memory and notes are both horrible, and neither are with me on the trip. She said they do allow tent camping and there are spots available.

Arriving at the office I’m told to ride to a row of tent sites and pick out the one I like best. I see a big tree shading a picnic table and tent spot. It looks perfect; high flat ground overlooking parts of the campground. I look at the signpost to see the number so I can tell the lady in the office which site I’ll be staying in for the night. It reads F4.

It then dawns on me - this is the spot I was told about last week, the spot I had visualized in my mind, and now somehow stumbled into today.

Why do I think I was destined to come to this campground?

After officially checking in, I leave the office and a man, we’ll call him Friend, is standing in the road. He introduces himself then sticks out his hand to shake mine. He says he recognizes the distant glare in my eyes and has a message for me.
